Coca-Cola Aluminum Bottle Brochure

39th Creativity Annual Awards (2009) – Gold Award Winner

This brochure was created to highlight the beauty and innovation of the new Coca-Cola Aluminum bottle design. Specifically, the brochure was aimed at targeting bar owners by emphasizing the unique, modern look and experience the bottles would create in the club scene. I decided the best way to focus on the allure of the iconic bottle would be a close cropping of the widely recognized Coca-Cola contour bottle shape. The brochure opens up to reveal the introductory copy contained inside the contour silhouette. Read More

Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations Website Design

Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations was a start-up rental property management business when I began working on their site as a freelance job in February 2008. I designed comps for all the primary and secondary pages, then built out the entire site. The company grew very quickly, and I maintained the site for them until November 2008. At that time, they were ready to turn their site over to Visual Data Systems — the company I worked for during one of my college internships — for further development and future maintenance. Visual Data Systems added back-end programming and search functions to my original website design.

Background

We live in a media saturated society where media affects the way that we interact with and understand the world around us. While the concept of media literacy has been around since the early 20th century, its only in the past 10 years that it has gained momentum and wide recognition in academia. Media Literacy is a two-fold process. First, one must posess the ability to understand, dissect, and critically analyze the information that is being presented. Second, one must be able to take that understanding and use it to create an effective and meaningful production. Oral and written communications are necessary skills in today’s world and are appropriately emphasized in our education system.

Media-based projects represent a way to communicate complex ideas to broader audiences. These types of projects have recently been infiltrating the academic world as accepted scholarly communication tools. However, a disconnect is present between the expectations of the professors that are assigning and evaluating the projects and the students who are asked to create them. Read More

What’s Under the Kitchen Sink?

Overview

In the twenty-first century, organized living spaces are more prevalent than ever. Organizational systems have been designed and redesigned in an attempt to make spaces more accommodating. The scope for this project was to step back and analyze why current systems are not working to their full potential and create a solution that would be a better fit.

First, we needed to differentiate issues with products that were currently out on the market, then decipher whether the issues revolved around usable space, aesthetics or accessibility. The objective of the design weighed heavily on user data collected through surveys, photographs, and consumer opinions on how the space should be defined. The primary concerns of potential customers were evident upon completion of research, thus allowing the team to move towards the idea development process. This process included sketches and renderings of possible design solutions.

The design needed to satisfy the needs of most potential consumers, rather than targeting a specific group. By designing a customizable system, our final product affords boundless opportunities in varying kitchen layouts and is easily accessible, affordable and easy to clean. Read More
